Indian Remedy for Cold and Cough, Especially for Kids - Warm Coconut Oil with Camphor
When it comes to natural remedies for cold and cough in kids, this traditional Indian method can offer great relief, especially at night when kids struggle to sleep due to congestion. Here’s how you can prepare and apply this simple remedy:
Ingredients:
50 ml of coconut oil
A few pieces of smashed camphor
Instructions:
Heat the Coconut Oil: Take 50 ml of coconut oil and heat it in a small pan for about 5 minutes. Make sure the oil gets warm but not too hot.
Add Camphor: Once the oil is heated, turn off the stove and add a few pieces of smashed camphor to it. Stir well until the camphor dissolves into the oil.
Cool Down: Allow the oil to cool down to a warm, tolerable temperature suitable for applying on the skin.
Application:
Apply the warm oil mixture gently on the chest, shoulders, and the center of the back of your child. Massage gently in circular motions.
It’s best to apply this remedy at night before bed, as it not only relieves cold symptoms but also helps the child sleep more easily. The warmth of the oil and the therapeutic properties of camphor help reduce chest congestion and ease breathing.
Why It Works:
Coconut oil is known for its soothing and moisturizing properties, which can be helpful for alleviating dryness caused by coughing.
Camphor, a common ingredient in Indian home remedies, has decongestant and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps open up nasal passages and provides relief from cough and cold symptoms.
This remedy is ideal for children because it is mild, natural, and helps them sleep peacefully through the night. Make sure to do a patch test on a small area of the skin to ensure there's no sensitivity to camphor.
